Abeiku Santana sacked as tourism ambassador

Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey Santana has been fired as one of the country’s National Tourism Ambassadors.

The Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Catherine Afeku, says her Ministry has stopped to recognize award winning broadcast journalist and Tourism Management Consultant, Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey Santana as one of the country’s National Tourism Ambassadors.

Abeiku Santana’s designation came to an end after a new list of ambassadors was drafted by the Minister, a statement signed on her behalf by Samuel Bryan Buabeng, Media Liaison Officer for Minister, noted.

“The said Mr Aggrey was once appointed as such by the former Minister, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu Agyare in May 2016, but had his designation come to an end after a new list of Ambassadors was drafted by the Minister in consultation with industry stakeholders,” an official statement issued on behalf of the Minister and signed by Samuel Bryan Buabeng, Media Liaison Officer for Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, noted.

The statement further said, “For the avoidance of doubt, the list includes the following persons: Agya Koo, Cindy Thompson, Diana Asamoah, Reggie N’ Bollie, Fuse ODG, Okyeame Kwame, D Black, Van Vicker, Nana Kwame Ampadu, Lucky Mensah, Sam Okyere, Fancy Gadam, Dada KD, Kaakyire Kwame Appiah, Wiyala, Stephen Appiah, Leo Mensah, Andy Dosty, Bibi Bright, Sena Dagadu, Yvonne Nelson, Daddy Lumba, Shrifa Gunu, Paa John Dadson, Sarkodie, Azmera Asabea Kropa and Abedi Ayew Pele. “

The newly appointed ambassadors are to spearhead the “See Ghana, Eat Ghana, Wear Ghana, Feel Ghana” campaign.

The campaign concept draws on re-orienting Ghanaians on a new sense of national pride in its heritage, culture, and way of life.

According to the minister, the aim of the Tourism Ambassador programme, was to partner influential persons to help drive tourism growth in and outside the country.

She said the programme was to enhance, develop and deliver destination management objectives and potentially help position Ghana as a tourist destination of choice.

She said the ambassadors would therefore use their personalities and expertise to sell Ghana’s tourism potential to the world.
